Rosalie returned the embrace of her sister and nodded against her shoulder. Alice was right, of course. It was one of her more annoying traits. She was always right. “When he gets back, I might steal him away for a mini vacation.” Rose smiled at that thought. It had been a long time since she and…

”Let’s see” she said as she started going through one of the piles on the floor putting various items into another plastic tote box. “Anything that looks last season put it on the bed and then I’ll have to figure out what to give to Bella…well rather what she might wear.”

Alice sat on the floor and started forming two piles.

Rosalie searched through the clothes Alice considered giving away, shaking her head. “You know, these might come back in fashion in a few years, and if not: vintage!.” It wasn’t like the Cullens had money troubles, they could shop whenever they wanted, and buy whatever they wanted. But Rosalie still felt giving away their pretty clothes was a waste.

Alice sighed softly and put the two piles into separate boxes before looking up. “You’re right but at least now I can close the doors more smoothly.” She stood up and smoothed out her skirt before taking the boxes to the hall with the others.

“Do you want to take the boxes to the shelter today?” She said as she re-entered the room.

Rose got to her feet, flipping her hair gracefully over her shoulder. “Might as well. Since the men are still away.” She growled under her breath at this, tempted to kick the bed in front of her, but decided against it. Alice would be furious if Rosalie damaged her pretty bed.

“We’ll take my car. It has a larger trunk.”

”Sounds good to me.” Alice said as she headed back out into the hall grabbing two of the boxes and heading down the stairs to the garage.

Rosalie picked up all of the boxes with clothes belonging to her, balancing them neatly on top of each other and following Alice down the hall. She grabbed her car keys off the hook in the garage and unlocked the doors, allowing Alice to put her boxes away first.

“We’re going straight to the shelter, right? No detour at Bella’s?”

Alice put the boxes in the car and helped Rosalie with the rest of the boxes. “Well I have one box to drop off at Bella’s, but we can do that on the way back.” Alice looked up at Rosalie and flashed a smile.

Rosalie gritted her teeth as she got in the driver’s seat, pressing a button on her key chain to open the garage door. She slid her designer sunglasses up her nose before starting the car and pulling out. “Oh joy!”

Alice smirked and slid on a pair of Rosalie’s sunglasses and sat back in the seat. She glanced out the window thinking about Jasper trying to focus on his decisions before sighing loudly and pressing the power button on the radio.

Rosalie drove quickly, though with more grace than any of her brothers and sisters. In her opinion anyway. She drove straight past the exit to Edward and Bella’s cottage without even looking in that direction. It did not take long until they were driving though the center of Forks.

Aliced watched the road and looked up at the overcast sky. She smiled as they neared the shelter. “This was a good idea Rosalie, very thoughtful of you.” She said looking at her sister over her sunglasses.

Rosalie smiled and shrugged. “Feels nice to give something back. Humans are so fragile. They need all the help they can get.” She pulled up on the curb and parked the car, moving her sunglasses to the top of her head. “I donated some canned food the other day as well. They seem to appreciate it a lot.”

”Well I am very proud of you. I can’t wait for Emmett to see how humanitarian you have become.” Alice smiled and winked at Rosalie as she put the sunglasses on the console. She opened the door of the car and went to the trunk of the car and waited.

“Take whatever you want.” Rosalie shrugged casually. She never feared lending her clothes to Alice, as she was as cautious with them as Rosalie herself. Staying in the pretty dress, she knelt down on the floor to sort through her shoes, placing those she was reluctant to use…

”I love her daughter. Isn’t that enough?” Rosalie had connected with Bella when she had been human and pregnant, but truthfully, it was mostly because Rose wanted the baby. She would never tell anyone, but secretly a tiny part of her had hoped Bella would die during labor. Rosalie would have been a wonderful mother.

She was somewhat grateful for the happiness Bella had brought to Edward, but she still felt deadly envious, and found it hard to tolerate the girl.

Alice laughed softly, “That’s a start. It’s difficult not to love Renesmee…” She started putting the “charity shoes” into a plastic tote box before finishing her thought, “but Bella tries very hard to get you to like her.” Alice stopped short and held up a pair of black suede pumps, “You want to give these away too?”

Rosalie’s eye twitched. She had had those pumps since the ’60s and the thought of giving them away, made her feel ill. “No, I’ll keep those.” Reaching out and taking the pair from Alice, she cradled the shoes to her chest like a child. “And I can’t help that I don’t like her. I can’t like everyone.”

Alice watched Rosalie hold the shoes and smiled before turning back to the unwanted shoes packing them neatly in the box. “I know you can’t like everyone, but, you could try just a bit harder. It’ll do you some good…” she said flashing a smile over her shoulder at Rosalie.

Rosalie snorted, placing the shoes back on their shelves carefully, checking them for marks and scratches. Everybody always said she had been unfair to Bella, not given her a chance, but they didn’t ever think of the reason for it. Seeing Bella, was like having a daily reminder of everything Rosalie would never be able to have. She would never be able to have a child. She would never see her real family again. In her eyes, Bella had it all, and Rose hated her for it. “I think the arrangement we have at the moment is working perfectly.”

Alice shook her head and put the lid on the box and spoke as she heaved the box up into her arms, “If you say so…” She wanted to shake Rosalie and force her to like Bella but there was no use in it, Rosalie was stubborn. She sat the box in the hall and looked around at the piles of clothes. “Do you want to donate any of your older clothes to the shelter or to Bella?”

Rose shook her head, releasing her hair from its ribbon and allowing her blonde locks to flow down her back. “I use all my clothes.” This was perhaps a tiny lie, but Rosalie loved her clothes almost as much as she loved Emmett, and parting with them was something she needed to prepare for. “What about you? Do you have anything to give away?”

Alice scrunched her nose and thought for a moment. “Actually yeah. My closet is busting at the seams and I’m itching for something new.” She glanced at the neat piles around the room and rubbed her hands together, “Let’s get your clothes back in your closet.” Alice started putting Rosalie’s clothes back into her closet by designer then by color slowly making sure not to wrinkle any of the fabric.

”Yeah, let’s!” Rosalie remained sitting on the floor, only watching Alice do all the work. Her sister had a talent for organization, and Rose was feeling lazy. She zipped her boots down and removed her socks, trying on her different pumps and high heeled shoes, stretching her leg high up into the air to admire herself. “God, I’m beautiful.”

Alice smirked and moved the last of the clothes into the closet before offering  a hand to Rosalie. “Come on Athena. You can try on my shoes next.” She winked and pulled Rosalie up and towards the door.

”Like your shoes would fit me. Your feet are way too big.” Rosalie was teasing now, squeezing Alice’s hand gently and allowed her to tug her away. She wrinked her nose when they entered Alice and Jasper’s room. It smelled of sex, and truthfully it made Rosalie miss Emmett even more.

Alice laughed and let go of Rosalie’s hand as she reached her closet pulling the doors open smiling at her full closet. She sighed and started pulling clothes out organizing them into piles before glancing up at Rosalie and stopping. “You okay?”

”Yeah.” Rosalie nodded slowly, appearing to be deep in thought. “Emmett knows he can’t ever do better than me, right?” It was not often that Rose felt insecure, actually, she was usually overly confident. But Emmett’s long trip had made her feel otherwise. He hadn’t even called. Nor had he sent a message with Edward and Carlisle when they returned a few days earlier.

”Of course he knows that. You should know that he doesn’t want anyone else. He loves you too much.” Alice spoke with a calm light voice as she pulled Rosalie into a hug. Alice pulled back so she could see Rosalie’s face and smiled reassuringly. “You just remember that.”
